Santorum Becomes the Sixth Presidential Candidate Pledging to Reduce the Deficit Using Waste Elimination Process

Wednesday Sen. Rick Santorum became the sixth presidential candidate to sign grassroots organization Strong America Now’s pledge. Those candidates signing the pledge are committed to tackle the debt and deficit by applying a waste-elimination process to the federal government.

Strong America Now’s plan calls for every department, agency, and program in the federal government to go through the waste elimination process known as Lean Six Sigma. Mike George, the founder of Strong America Now, is the pioneer of Lean Six Sigma and has seen it reduce costs by at least 25 percent in every process in which it is applied.

“This is a solution that can work,” said George. “Now more than ever, Washington needs to stop playing politics and look at what makes sense. Our plan is proven, bipartisan and can save our country from financial ruin.”

Santorum signed the pledge at the Iowa state capitol in Des Moines at 2:45 P.M. Central. “I commend Mike George and Strong America Now for bringing needed light to the pressing issue of government debt and efficiently spending taxpayer dollars,” said Senator Santorum. “As a member of Congress I worked tirelessly to eliminate waste and abuses of taxpayer dollars, but it is time we implement the tried-and-true Lean Six Sigma method to ensure our entire government is lean and efficient. As President, I look forward to working to doing just that.”

Nearly 20,000 Iowans have also signed a pledge to only vote for presidential candidates who have signed the Strong America Now pledge. The organization is busing in its members to the Ames Poll, where the group predicts to have a powerful showing.
