Executive Director Peter O'Rourke

As executive director, Peter O'Rourke is hands-on with almost every facet of Strong America Now. From organizing field staff, to working with Members of Congress on legislation, to educating presidential candidates on debt reduction, Peter leads a wide range of Strong America Now efforts on both the national and state level.
 
As a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Peter has extensive experience with this proven process for waste elimination. Prior to his current role, Peter worked with the U.S. Army where he was a Program Manager executing Continuous Process Improvement & Lean Six Sigma initiatives across the Army's acquisition & logistics enterprise.
 

Peter's experience with Lean Six Sigma began in the U.S. Air Force where as a commissioned officer he executed projects, trained personnel and advocated for process improvement methods to leadership. As a student at the Air Force Institute of Technology, he published a thesis that provided insights and models for implementing Lean Six Sigma across the Air Force, which was briefed to senior leaders.

After leaving the Air Force he went to work for George Group Consulting. While there, Peter trained and mentored over 200 Department of Defense and Federal Agency executives in Lean Six Sigma methodology. He also led Army Materiel Command and TRANSCOM leaders' workshops. Peter has trained and coached hundreds of Black & Green Belts in Lean Six Sigma methodologies, change management, and project management.

In 2007, after Accenture, LLP, bought the George Group, Peter continued his work at Accenture as Director of Federal Marketing. Peter created and led U.S. global strategic operational marketing and business development activities. He also managed a $2 million marketing budget.

Peter served in the U.S. Navy from 1990 to 1994 as Maintenance Crew Chief at the Mirimar Naval Air Station in California. In 1998, he graduated from the University in Tennessee with a degree in political science and earned a master's degree in Logistics Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology. He now lives in Washington, D.C.
